SANCTUARY CHARTER
This Charter is freely and voluntarily submitted by the members of Sanctuary to serve as a reference to all members and interested parties. The Charter is the philosophy and governance of the Sanctuary Guild.(End legal sounding babble)
Social Organization
Sanctuary is intended to be the place its' name implies. Sanctuary is a guild whose membership is comprised of like-minded people seeking to explore all facets of an on-line gaming environment. Sanctuary is committed to no specific path of participation and is a free society of players with minimum civil requirements and no on-line requirements. Sanctuary is not one person and not one group of persons but an entire community of players who seek mutual cooperation and harmony.
It is the aspirational goal of Sanctuary to be comprised of mature members who are willing to treat others equally, to adhere to common ground rules of ethics and to assist each other for one purpose, e.g. to have an on-line sanctuary.
Each member is expected to honor the Golden Rule. Each member shall treat every other member in the same manner in which that player would expect to be treated. That philosophy extends to the manner in which each member is expected to treat the gaming community at large. Sanctuary has no place for bigotry, excessive profanity or excessive bickering. Misconduct does result in warnings and/or expulsions. Sanctuary has very specific rules about conduct and chat which are designed to prevent and hinder strife yet permit free speech and discourse.
Sanctuary believes that the actions of one member reflect on every single member of the guild. For that reason, the guild's policies and rules are strictly enforced to maintain not only the good-standing of the guild, but each of its members as well. Sanctuary will give each member every benefit of any doubt, and each member should do the same in his or her dealings with other players.
Sanctuary intends to exist beyond any one gaming environment. Regardless of each member's on-line activity, he or she is still a member of Sanctuary and is expected to modify their conduct accordingly. The diverse nature of our membership requires that the guild not be focused on one objective or one mission. This is intended to be a sanctuary for all members whereever they may be and in whatever environment they find themselves.
Philosophy
John Donne wrote, in his poem, Devotions XVII (1572 - 1631), “No man is an Island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the Continent, a part of the main."
